The Personalized Medicine Coalition (PMC) has released the results of a public opinion survey, and it is clear that more needs to be done to inform the average U.S. citizen about personalized medicine’s benefits.

Only 40% of respondents had heard the term “personalized medicine,” and only 11% had discussed personalized medicine options with their doctors.

Once the concept was explained to the unfamiliar respondents, 65% reacted positively to the idea, and only 2% reacted negatively (33% were neutral or don’t know).

The PMC also has a very nice report called the Case for Personalized Medicine, now in its fourth edition. This report provides an overview of the key factors affecting the rates of innovation and adoption of personalized medicine.
